As a gamer who needed a replacement for my chewed-through Sennheiser HD 598SE, I opted for the Amazon Basics 7.1 USB Gaming Headphones, mainly because of their affordability.
I got them for Rs. 1,299/-
Here’s my quick take:
Pros:
✅ Sturdy Build: These headphones surprised me with their build quality. They seem robust enough to withstand the next feline attack.
✅ Tangle-Free Cable: Was not expecting a fiber sheath on the cable. Prevents annoying tangles.
✅ Excellent Mic: The microphone delivers crisp sound quality, making in-game comms or work calls quite clear.
✅ Convenient Controls: The in-line volume control and mic mute feature are quite handy.
✅ Decent Sound: Can’t compare with the HD 598SE, but the sound quality is decent considering the price point. It’s more than satisfactory for gaming and comms.
✅ Adjustable Mic Boom: The mic boom is highly flexible and stays firm in any position
✅ Long Cable: Useful for gamers with setups that have some distance from the case
Cons:
❌ Clamping Pressure: The headphones exert too much clamping pressure, leading to discomfort over extended periods. The earcups can dig into the base of the ears. Not suitable for wearing more than two hours at a time. I’m planning to stretch them out overnight. Did it once already and they’ve already become more loose.
❌ Foam Pads Not So Soft: The foam pads are not the most comfortable, but considering the price, they’re acceptable. I guess I’m spoilt.
❌ Not for music and I have no clue what they mean by 7.1 surround 😆

I had bought this for work purpose around March 2024. Within 5 months, right side audio is lost and when I emailed for support, no response till date. There is no damage nor even a scratch mark on the headphones. This is pathetic product from Amazon. No support from Amazon, all we get is support mail and they never respond.

as a gamer this product doesnt stand for gaming perspective the foot sound of enemy doesnt audible enough and audio is very mild product is comfortable but sound quality is poor for gaming

Long review below, if you don’t want to read: just buy it. It will probably last for 6 months at least.
I saw that this had 11 ratings with 5 stars and I decided to buy this. After I placed the order I saw that this same product was listed for a different price in Amazon itself, and that had 210 reviews with an 3.5 rating average.. I thought the people who are selling this themselves made a bunch of accounts and gave this product 11 ratings with 5 stars.. so I was worried if I made a mistake buying this.
I don’t know if those 11 ratings are true or not but this headphone is awesome so far.
Writing this review after using it for 2 days, and I got it for 1300, and the sound quality is really good. The mic is good too but it is too sensitive (it slightly picks up the sound of the TV which has around 8 volume, which is in the next room) but during meetings it doesn’t cause any trouble.
The bass is good, and it is capable to playing stuff at really loud volumes. (Even after keeping my PC volume at 35%, I had to turn the volume dial given on the headphone so that it is not too loud).
It covers my ears completely and there is no audio leak (I only tested for audio leak by keeping volume at 35% as I said above) and it is very comfortable.. you can easily wear for 2 hrs without any discomfort.
Overall it is a solid headphone at this price. You can absolutely buy this.
Edit 1: still working great after 1 month of usage.
Edit 2: Right side stopped working after 3 months of use.
