Its a good mid-range performance SSD. Its been out for a while and has established itself as super reliable. Speed seems to be decent as I am using on PCI gen3 but nothing earth shattering. Easy to install but the mount screw is not available in the package which was skimpy of WD, deducted a star for that. Heat level has barely exceeded 40 degrees so far, even though its my primary OS drive. You get Acronis software license free with it, which appears super useful for cloning and other purposes. Its a good drive for normal users and gaming beginners.

Works good, easy to install; be weary you need to make sure the “stand off” is in the right spot or it’s even there. Mine was pre-installed on my computer. The drive should sit parallel with the motherboard/circuit board; don’t push it down too far. I’ve always had good luck with Western Digital storage products, even their old WD black edition mechanical hard drives. I have never had a Western Digital drive fail on me yet, still have my old 640GB black drives from 2010. Magnet screwdriver is really recommended to install this drive, the retaining screw is VERY small. Be careful not to cross thread it as well. No DRAM on the drive but does use HMB (Host-based Memory Buffer) for speedy operation. Works great for gaming. Love the black color, matches my all black computer theme well. Doesn’t seem to run hot at all, haven’t seen anything over 50C while gaming (these usually mount near a very hot graphics card (if you have one) in desktop computers). All in all decent price for pretty good performance. If your a gamer the money saved here could go to something really useful like a bigger graphics card, more system RAM (memory) or next tier up CPU. The “SSD Dashboard” app is decent as well, shows drive spec’s, health, used and available space, interface speed supported, interface speed connected, S.M.A.R.T tests, temps, if “DirectStorage” is supported, checks and updates drive firmware as well and a bunch of other stuff. It’s one of the last good apps that you can select to “not start up automatically”. It’ll show other installed drives as well but doesn’t show any info on them if they aren’t Western Digital. All in all a good purchase.

I recently upgraded my MSI GF 63 with the Western Digital WD Black SN770 NVMe 1TB, and the results have been nothing short of outstanding. This NVMe SSD has proven to be a game-changer, providing an exceptional blend of speed, reliability, and efficiency.
Pros:
Blazing Fast Speeds: The standout feature of the WD Black SN770 is its remarkable speed, reaching up to 4000 MB/s in both read and write operations. This has translated into an astonishingly quick boot time of approximately 8 seconds for my MSI GF 63, making the overall system responsiveness a delight.
Smooth Gaming Experience: High-end gaming experiences with graphics-intensive titles like GTA V, FIFA, and CS feel like a breeze. The SSD ensures that games run seamlessly, akin to a hot knife cutting through butter. The absence of lag adds a whole new level of enjoyment to the gaming sessions.
No Heating Issues: Despite the impressive speeds and demanding tasks, the WD Black SN770 maintains a cool operating temperature. The lack of heating issues is crucial for sustained performance and the overall longevity of the drive.
Efficient for Creative Tasks: Beyond gaming, this SSD proves its worth in image and video editing. The lightning-fast processing speeds significantly reduce waiting times, enhancing productivity for creative professionals.
Consistent Performance: Throughout the first week of usage, I have encountered no issues or drawbacks. The WD Black SN770 has consistently delivered on its promises, surpassing expectations in every aspect.
Cons:
Limited Usage Time for Assessment: As of now, it’s challenging to pinpoint any significant drawbacks since my usage has been limited to just a week. However, the absence of issues during this initial period is a positive indicator.
Conclusion:
In my years of using various storage solutions, I rarely award a perfect 5-star rating. However, the Western Digital WD Black SN770 NVMe 1TB has earned every bit of it. Its outstanding speed, seamless gaming experience, and reliability make it a top-tier choice for those seeking uncompromising performance. While it’s still early days in my usage, the initial impressions are more than promising. If you’re looking for a high-performance NVMe SSD that delivers on its promises, the WD Black SN770 is undoubtedly a worthy investment.

The Western Digital WD Black SSD has truly transformed my system. With read speeds of up to 5150MB/s, the difference in performance is incredible. My computer boots up much faster, and transferring large files is lightning quick. Installation was easy, and the drive is reliable with its 5-year warranty. If you’re looking to boost your system’s speed and responsiveness, this SSD is an excellent choice. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to upgrade to PCIe Gen 4.

Works great. Don’t overthink it. Better value for money than Samsung or other faster wd. Do you really need an ssd faster than this??

Overheats like crazy.
I got it first a piece which was overheating and slowing down while transferrin files. Resting temp was around 55-60 C while my OS SSD had temp 1015 degrees lower.
Non-returnable item, but thankfully Amazon arranged a replacement. Replacdment piece was even worse. even before Initiating and Partitining it was overheating and hung up my PC while partitioning. on second arttemt my PC chashed and on reboot OS was not to be found and i had to reinstall windows 11 on my PC. Manufacturer says -40 to +85 deg C working temp, but it crossed een the high limit.
Finally AMazon decided to take it back, but on reverse pickup SErial Number didnt match. this is my second case where serial number of an IT storage item doesnt match with Billing deails.
Please beware.
P.S. :- I read that SN770 2 TB SSD had some firmware issues leading to BSOD in won 11 24H2, and the WD had released firmware updates, but when i checked with WD dashboard program the firmware is up-to-date.
I guess WD should it with Heatsink applied.
