I bought this to upgrade my laptop HDD and was well worth it. My HP Pavilion laptop had become extremely slow, and I found the HDD was taking 100% utilization and CrystalDiskmark result was like 60 MBps only. After swapping the internal disk with this new one, the measured throughput was shown as 560 read/ 500 write which is exactly as per WD spec, which is very impressive (more practical result falls short of manufacturer spec). Also the laptop became lightning fast, bootup time reduced to a few seconds, and apps load almost instantly even with 4 GB RAM. I think its worth the extra few bucks to buy a WD Blue instead of WD green as it has some essential extras to give maximum speed, within the limits of SATA interface !

At first I was reluctant to install it due to all the bad press advertised about it and almost cancelled it.. It arrived and after hearing about recomendations on updating the firmware immedately before use, I found out that the firmware has already been updated right from the factory, so it arrived with the correct firmware ! Hooked it up and Migrated the operating system over to it and then removed the original drive and replaced it with this one, booted the machine up and no issues booting.. Seemed to boot up actually faster than the original green one I had.. Didn’t require any windows drivers, or software to run it. Now with a TB of space, my operating system is no longer limited 120 gb. Drive seems very responsive, fast, reliable and is not giving me any issues and I’m quite please with it.. I’ve always had drives from these guys and never once have I ever had any issue with their drives… this SSD is well worth the money !!

I’m happy with the purchase overall. It’s an old laptop with a mechanical hdd and was planning to switch to sata SSD, nvme wasn’t an option. I thoroughly searched and researched got to know about dram sata SSD,this was economical from all, there are dram less less costly. But decided. It delivered today, installed 11, installation was fast and the magic started, installation happening faster, software installation happening faster, faster switching between apps, boot time, shutdown time, all dramatically fast, apps loading all were very fast. Tested and he speed was as promised. Thanks to the technology. Worthy upgrade to 1 tb. Nvme can be much faster but for some other time. People who don’t have option on their oldies to go to nvme and can go for these, noticable difference 5 times. Worth every penny spent

It’s true, what they say about this: if there’s one upgrade your laptop needs, this is the one.
My (8GB/ Core i3 7th gen/ Win 10) laptop was hardly a year old when it started having issues because of the hard disk, the disk usage was always at 99% no matter what i did. And this was affecting just about anything that i did on the laptop. Turning windows update services off helped but they always found a way to magically turn themselves on again.
Tried everything under the sun (including several clean formats) and it looked like i had no other option but to try a hard drive replacement. Was going to buy a HDD but then I read about SSDs and all the love they were getting and i decided to go for this one.
True to the folklore this thing is magic. I always thought it’s the RAM & processor that have the biggest say in performance and speed, but boy was i wrong. Here are some points based on my experience:
1) Everything is just fast. Never faced the 99% disk usage problem again. If you have been on a HDD you’ll feel the difference instantly.
2) Booting up never takes more than 10 seconds, never.
3) One could buy a 2TB HDD at less price but am so used to this now that i am never going back to those spinning discs even if they’re sold free.
4) If you can, then go for this the blue one and not the green one as that is just bare bones and pretty basic. You can compare the specs and the differencences but for the extra money i think this is a better buy. Sure there are even higher variants but this one sits in the middle.
5) It is super light in weight and that makes sense if you think of what it really is: an SD card in a hard drive case! Installation is DIY if you know your way around opening the laptop.
6) 500 GB might seem less but don’t consider this just as your primary storage. Instead think of this as the disc your apps and OS are going to be running on and can benefit from the speed. For your storage needs you could always buy an external hard disk of whatever capacity you need. Even better, you could go for a hybrid disc where the SSD is used by the OS and HDD for storage.
My laptop is singing now and i would highly recommend this. I could do the benchmark tests and put the numbers here, but there’s no point in reiterating a well established fact.
SSDs are faster than HDDs. It is all about whether you need one and if you’re ready to pay the price.
