I purchased the Omen 14 from a retail store in March 2024, and I’ve been using it ever since. I’m sharing my review here on Amazon to help counter the numerous fake, unverified reviews.

Build Quality:

This laptop is so sleek and lightweight and looks so good in white. It does feel premium and aesthetic. If you’re in public, it’ll be hard to identify this machine as a gaming laptop at a glance, which I love. Visually, the only thing that gives that away is the translucent RGB keyboard, which feels so good to type on. I own a premium mechanical keyboard, and I sometimes prefer to use this laptop’s keyboard over that. Provides tactile feedback, which I like and is so satisfying to type on. The glass touchpad feels soo good to use. If you were to compare it with the 2020 Macbook pro (the only other laptop i currently have), the touchpad on this is way better.

Cons: The RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, so it’s not upgradeable, and there is only one SSD slot available (no extra slot)

PS: If you ever need to clean your laptop or swap out the SSD, be cautious—the back panel has some of the tiniest screws you’ll ever see on a laptop. Take extra care when opening it!

Display:

The 2880 x 1800 OLED display is stunning. As a designer, I love using it for everything—the color accuracy is quite good. However, since it’s an OLED panel, you’ll notice a lot of screen reflection if there’s a light source directly behind you, but I got used to it. Also, because it’s a 14-inch display, every resolution looks good on it, so while gaming, 1080p looks just as sharp as the native resolution.

Battery:

If you’re using the ‘Integrated’ graphics mode, you’ll get an average of 6-8 hours on eco or balanced modes. However, in ‘Hybrid’ mode, battery life is significantly lower since the Nvidia GPU consumes most of the power. I haven’t yet tested gaming on battery, so I can’t comment on the battery life during gaming but who games on battery on a gaming laptop anyway-

Temperature:

During light gaming (titles like VALORANT, Minecraft with shaders, ROR2, etc.), the CPU temperature stays below 70/75 degree Celsius. For more demanding games (such as Wuthering Waves, Borderlands 3, Forza 5 on high/ultra settings), it remains under 80 degrees, reaching a maximum of 85. The keyboard also doesn’t get hot while gaming—at most, it feels slightly warm towards the center, as the air intake fans are on either sides of the keybooard.

A few other things to keep in mind:

1. The HP Omen Gaming Hub consumes a lot of RAM when running in the foreground or background, so make sure to close it before you start gaming.
2. Since the air intake is on the bottom of the laptop, I wouldn’t recommend using it on soft surfaces like a bed, as this can block airflow. Additionally, the center part of the back panel can get hot to the touch.
3. The sound quality through the AUX port is fantastic; it makes even the cheapest earphones sound great.
4. Switching between ‘Integrated’ and ‘Hybrid’ modes can be a hassle, as you need to reboot your machine each time.
5. If you plan to use an external monitor with this laptop via a DisplayPort cable, you’ll need to enable the HDCP setting in the BIOS to utilize the Thunderbolt port on the left side. Also, no G-SYNC support is there.

During my six months of usage, I haven’t encountered any issues with this laptop. If your primary focus is gaming and you are willing to spend more money, I recommend the Zephyrus G14, as its GPU performance is better due to higher wattage. However, if you’re looking for a lightweight laptop with solid day-to-day performance, an excellent keyboard which never gets hot while using, then the Omen 14 is the way to go. Plus, the fans are quieter compared to G14.

Unverified negative reviews only because of price are not justified without even using the device.

Display is probably one of the best laptop displays ever. Any game will look good without any use of shaders.

Build looks and feels premium.

Gaming performance is actually great. Don’t expect anything extreme but will run any game at high settings comfortably.

Laptop temperatures remain considerably low without any cooling pads.

I considered both this and Zephyrus G14 but chose this because of negative experience with previous G14 where laptop becomes slower on battery and heating issues.
