I ordered this RAM for my brother’s Asus Vivobook 14 x412fa Laptop.
It’s a core i3 laptop with 1TB nVME SSD but came with only 4 GB RAM. My brother is a CS student and I wanted him to install Linux on Virtual Box, run docker, run a couple of servers, containers, etc. but the laptop’s pre-installed 4GB couldn’t handle it.
So I decided to add this 16GB to the mix.
Happy to inform you, that the RAM worked, although initially it did not detect it but started working after a reinstallation.
Does it make the laptop faster than before?
No, it doesn’t.
What does it improve?
The type of applications you run, after memory intense applications like VBox/Figma/Photoshop, the laptop barely slows down.
Is it worth it?
Depends, if your software needs it. If they do, yes. It is worth it.
What is the compatibility of this RAM?
It’s a SODIMM | DDR4 | 2666MHz | 16GB memory. You have to have a laptop that supports all 4 of those specifications.
How is it for gaming?
Well, for 1440p or 1080p resolutions, 16GB+ RAM doesn’t have a big difference in gaming performance. Instead of getting two of these, invest that money in GPU and get one of these.
If you’re playing 4k, you definitely need 16+8 at least but that should be enough, alongside a premium GPU.
