Works as Advertised. Inexpensive video storage.
Not working in hard disc –
Very sad. The packing was dirty. The product does not work. A little more attention should be pay while packing these types of electronics. When I go to the WD site for warranty, it shows an error. if there 0 star i will give 0.

WD Purple is a surveillance hard disk, which is intended to run 24×7 hours. Normal hard disks run at higher spin speed, but they sleep when there is no disk activity. They will fail faster if used 24×7.
These surveillance hard disks spins slower, but have excellent response. DVRs respond instantly to playing back recorded video. I’ve used desktop Hard disk in an NVR which responds much slower. This hard disk is also silent compared to desktop hard disks which makes a bit of whining noise under load.
When connected to laptop through USB 3 with a special hardware, it gave more than 200MBps write speed, which is excellent for a Hard disk. I haven’t checked actual performance since this is intended to be used in a DVR.

Bin echt überrascht wie leise diese Festplatte im Betrieb ist. Ich habe diese in meinem Homeserver verbaut um darauf die Aufzeichnungen meiner Kameras (5 Stück) 24/7 zu speichern. Vorher liefen diese auf eine WD Red, welche schon sehr zu hören war im Betrieb. Einzig die Verpackung war nicht besonders gut, lediglich in Luftpolsterfolie…

It’s been running non-stop thus far for a few months and have had zero issues thus far. It runs MUCH quieter than the original WD blue the NVR unit come with.

I mainly got this to replace a burnt HDD for our dvr, due to frequent power cuts, the dvr conked the prev hdd, though this time I got a dedicated 5 min power backup for dvr before the diesel genset kicked in to fix the intermittent power cut that could brick this hdd too.
Hardware wise, does the job of recording upto 9 cameras for about 1½ weeks and easy read, so for dvr this is good enough.
